The commune of Horezu in the Vâlcea district has become widely known because of the enameled pottery decorated with highly original polychromic motives produced here. The craftsmen have preserved the secret of the potter’s stone, whose revolving movement is controlled by foot. Painting and decorating the pottery is the work of both men and women, who use a goose feather to draw the motifs as the the clay object turns on the wheel. “The Horezu Rooster,” a specific decorative element, has become the emblem of this craft and is also the name of the pottery fair that takes place yearly in this commune.
